The Musicians
What started out as an after school music program for Class 7 students
at the Little Yarra Steiner School in 1996, now includes students
from classes 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.
The Little Yarra Ensemble now boasts a membership of over 50 young
musicians between the age of twelve and sixteen who perform at various
events ranging from local markets to national folk festivals.
Today's ensemble includes, violins, cello, double bass, piano,
accordion, flutes, clarinets, oboes, percussion, marimbas and a
vocal choir.
But the Little Yarra Ensemble is so much more than a group of school
students supported by their music staff. This unusual mix of students
and teachers performing lively "world music" together
provides a blend of youthful exuberance and professional skill that
is quite unique.
